FAQs
What is the main difference between emotional support animals and service animals?
The main difference lies in training and legal protections. Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) offer comfort to individuals with mental health conditions but don’t require special training or have public access rights. Service Animals are trained to perform specific tasks for people with disabilities and are legally allowed in most public places under the ADA. In Texas, ESAs don’t need to be registered or trained, unlike service animals.
What documentation is required for an emotional support animal?
To qualify for an emotional support animal (ESA), you’ll need a valid ESA letter from a licensed mental health professional (LMHP). This letter must be on official letterhead, confirm that you have a qualifying mental health condition under the ADA, and explain how the ESA supports your treatment. It should also include the provider’s license number, signature, and date. No special registration or ID is required under federal law.
What isn’t covered by my pet insurance?
Pet insurance coverage varies, but most plans exclude pre-existing conditions. We also don’t cover routine wellness care like annual exams, grooming, or flea and tick medication. It’s important to review our policy’s exclusions to understand what’s not included.
What is an online vet visit, and how is it free?
We’re here to help pet parents keep their furry companions happy and healthy. With our 24/7 availability, you can connect with licensed vets anytime. Whether it’s about your pet’s diet, behavior, or signs of illness, expert help is just a message away.
Can I make changes to my coverage?
Yes! Reach out to the team if you want to make a change, and we’ll help you get the coverage that’s best for you.
